Doch vor f\u00fcnf Jahrhunderten spielten sich hinter diesen stillen Klostermauern einige der gef\u00e4hrlichsten Aff\u00e4ren Venedigs ab \u2013 nicht in Bordellen, nicht in Casinos, sondern unter dem heiligen Gel\u00fcbde der Keuschheit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Venedig drehte es sich in Kl\u00f6stern nicht immer um Gott. Oft ging es um Politik, Geld und Kontrolle. Adelige Familien schickten ihre \u00fcberz\u00e4hligen T\u00f6chter regelm\u00e4\u00dfig in Kl\u00f6ster \u2013 nicht aus Glaubensgr\u00fcnden, sondern aus Bequemlichkeit. Mitgiften waren teuer; Heiratsb\u00fcndnisse waren begrenzt. Eine Tochter, die sicher hinter Klostertoren eingeschlossen war, bedeutete f\u00fcr ihren Vater eine politische Komplikation weniger \u2013 und eine Mitgift weniger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zu Beginn des 16. Jahrhunderts hatte sich San Zaccaria zu einem der angesehensten Kl\u00f6ster f\u00fcr Frauen aus dem Adel entwickelt. Es war nicht mit Waisen oder B\u00fc\u00dferinnen gef\u00fcllt, sondern mit T\u00f6chtern der reichsten Patrizierfamilien Venedigs \u2013 Frauen mit Titeln, Verm\u00f6gen und gef\u00e4hrlicher Langeweile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Und Langeweile konnte in Venedig immer auf kreative Weise ausgenutzt werden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trotz der schweren Tore und der Klausurregeln fanden die Adligen Venedigs \u2013 Ehem\u00e4nner, V\u00e4ter, Br\u00fcder und vor allem Liebende \u2013 Wege, die Grenzen zu \u00fcberwinden. Manche bestachen Wachen. Andere betraten die Stadt als Beichtv\u00e4ter, Kaufleute oder \u00c4rzte. Drinnen f\u00fchrten die Frauen ein \u00fcberraschend luxuri\u00f6ses Leben: Privatgem\u00e4cher, Bedienstete, \u00fcppiges Essen, Musik, Stickereien und stundenlanges Geplauder \u2013 eine Welt des Luxus hinter heiligen Mauern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Das wahre Gesch\u00e4ft von San Zaccaria war nicht das Beten. Es war Geheimhaltung.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Viele Nonnen pflegten langj\u00e4hrige Beziehungen mit adligen Liebhabern, die sie regelm\u00e4\u00dfig besuchten. Manche erhielten Geschenke, Schmuck und sogar private Eink\u00fcnfte aus famili\u00e4ren Beziehungen. Die Beziehungen dauerten jahrelang, und manche bekamen Kinder \u2013 die vorsichtig hinausgeschmuggelt und heimlich von vertrauensw\u00fcrdigen Verwandten oder bezahlten Ammen adoptiert wurden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ein ber\u00fcchtigter Fall betraf <strong>Schwester Agnese Contarini<\/strong>, Tochter einer m\u00e4chtigen Patrizierfamilie, die sieben Jahre lang eine Aff\u00e4re mit einem venezianischen Senator hatte. Aus dieser Aff\u00e4re gingen zwei heimlich geborene Kinder hervor, die unter falschen Namen in Adelsfamilien untergebracht wurden. Als die Aff\u00e4re 1579 aufflog, l\u00f6ste sie beinahe einen politischen Skandal aus. Der Rat der Zehn intervenierte \u2013 nicht, um die Liebenden zu bestrafen, sondern um den potenziellen Schaden f\u00fcr Venedigs elit\u00e4re Blutlinien einzud\u00e4mmen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Die Kirchenhierarchie tolerierte weit mehr, als sie zugab. M\u00e4chtige Adelsfamilien sch\u00fctzten den Ruf ihrer T\u00f6chter. Priester wurden bestochen, um Schwangerschaften zu ignorieren. Hebammen wurden im Schutz der Nacht in Klosterzellen geschmuggelt. Die venezianische Gesellschaft kannte eine Regel vor allem: Solange Skandale verborgen blieben, konnte man S\u00fcnden in den Griff bekommen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Doch die mutigeren Nonnen waren nicht einfach nur Opfer oder Gefangene. Viele lernten, diese geheimen Vereinbarungen zu manipulieren, indem sie Liebhaber nutzten, um ein bequemes Leben zu finanzieren, Einfluss auf die Familienpolitik zu nehmen und ihre Position in der komplexen Hierarchie der venezianischen Adelsgesellschaft zu sch\u00fctzen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>San Zaccaria war kein Einzelfall. \u00c4hnliche Geschichten kursierten in den Hallen von Santa Maria della Celestia, Santo Spirito und San Lorenzo. Doch San Zaccaria \u2013 mit seinem Reichtum, seinem Prestige und seinen edlen Blutlinien \u2013 stand im Zentrum von Venedigs kultiviertester und gef\u00e4hrlichster Mischung aus Glauben und verbotener Liebe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Heute bewundern Besucher die anmutige Fassade, ohne zu wissen, dass unter dem Marmorboden einst Frauen wandelten, die sowohl das Beten als auch die Verf\u00fchrung
